Jaimey Hamilton Faris is a contemporary art critic/historian/theorist and respirateur. During her [ON] hours, she is Asst. Professor of Contemporary Art and Critical Theory at the University of Hawaii, Manoa. She writes and teaches on contemporary visual culture, with an emphasis on issues of globalization, subjectivity, materiality, and appropriation. She also directs Intersections, The Visiting Artist and Scholar Program for the Art and Art History Department.
During her [OFF] hours, she co-directs [OFF]hrs creative in downtown Honolulu, a pop-up arts and culture space.
She has published in Art Journal, October, and In_Visible Culture, contributed essays to gallery and museum catalogs, written art reviews for the Honolulu press, and juried and curated art exhibitions and forums, including alterna APEC in Honolulu which advocates art’s role in expanding consciousness about global economic issues. Currently, she is working on two books, Uncommon Goods: Global Dimensions of the Readymade and SPAM MAPS: Questions about Asia Pacific Contemporary Art.
